MICHAEL RAFTER

Michael Rafter recently completed over 900 performances as Music Director of Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway.  Following Millie he did vocal arrangements for Sweet Charity that opened on Broadway in May 2005.  Currently, Michael Rafter is conducting auditions for the Destination Broadway 2007 summer program!

Michael Rafter acted as a vocal and instrumental producer for the Silver Burdett Ginn educational series, a 100 CD collection distributed to schools nationwide. Michael conducted the Broadway revival of The Sound of Music and is currently the supervising music director for the national tour and London Company of Thoroughly Modern Millie. He supervised the Broadway production of Swing as well as the national tours of Swing, Sunset Boulevard, The Sound of Music, and Buddy.  

 In addition, Michael served as music director/conductor for The American Songbook series at Alice Tully Hall and for the Broadway revivals of The King and I, Gypsy, the York Theatre’s production of Merrily We Roll Along and the Playwrights Horizons’ production of Violet. Michael won an Emmy for his music direction of the TV movie Gypsy starring Bette Midler, and co-produced its soundtrack on Atlantic Records. He was the music director for Broadway’s Best on Bravo where he worked with such artists as Trisha Yearwood, Kevin Bacon, Joan Osborne, Mandy Moore, Cyndi Lauper and Darius Rucker.  

Michael was a guest conductor with the Memphis Symphony and the Tulsa Philharmonic for an evening of Jule Styne’s music. He was one of the piano duo that accompanied the Broadway revival of The Most Happy Fella and music director for the national tours of The Tap Dance Kid, Big River, and Little Shop of Horrors. Future projects include music directing, co-composing and arranging a Broadway musical based on the film Swing Shift.

Michael is a graduate of Dartmouth College. He lives in New York City with his wife, composer Jeanine Tesori, and their daughter Siena.

VALERIE WRIGHT

Valerie Wright will return as a member of the teaching staff of “Destination Broadway” this summer in New York!

Vallerie’s Broadway credits include Annie Get Your Gun, Damn Yankees, Steel Pier, Sally Marr and Her Escorts starring Joan Rivers, Song and Dance starring Bernadette Peters, and Cats

Off Broadway credits:  And the World Goes Round and Showing Off. 

Regional credits:  Peter Pan, St. Louis Muny, Gladys in Pajama Game, Essie in Redhead (Goodspeed Opera House), Sis in Last Lists of my Mad Mother (Theatre Works of Hartford), Charity in Sweet Charity (Bridgeport Downtown Cabaret), Miss Turnstiles in On the Town (Arena Stage) and Virga Blaire in Three (both in the Prince Music Theatre in LA).

National tours:  Hello Dolly starring Carol Channing, Song and Dance with Melissa Manchester, The World Goes Round (Jefferson Award, Helen Hayes nomination), Damn Yankees opposite Jerry Lewis (Helen Hayes nomination). 

Valerie appears in the film Sleepless in Seattle, has written a children’s album titled Green Beans on the Floor and is the mother of 4½ year old Luca!

MARY MacLEOD

Mary MacLeod will return as a member of the Destination Broadway teaching staff.

Mary has appeared on Broadway in Fosse, Suessical, Chicago, Guys & Dolls, Company (Kathy) and Smokey Joe’s Café (Dance Captain, assistant stage manager) at City Center Encores! 

Mary has been in Fiorello!, Can-Can and was the associate choreographer of Bye-Bye Birdie.  National Tour credits include Chicago (Mona), Guys & Dolls, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and Oklahoma (Dream Laurey).  Regionally Mary has been Nickie in Sweet Charity (Barrington Stage Company), Velma in Chicago (Cape Fear Regional Theatre) and Lola in Damn Yankees (Marriott Lincolnshire).

EUGENE FLEMING - Tap

Eugene Fleming has performed in numerous Broadway shows including A Chorus line, The Tap Dance Kid, Black and Blue, The High Rollers Social and Pleasure Club, Swinging on a Star, Street Corner Symphony, Fosse (opening night cast), Kiss Me Kate, One ‘Mo Time, The Look of Love and Never Gonna Dance.

TRIPP HANSON - Tap

Tripp Hanson has been a member of the Manhattan Rhythm Kings since 1985.  Tripp has performed in many Broadway Shows including The Boys from Syracuse, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Kiss Me Kate and Crazy for You.  In addition Tripp was a contributing choreographer for Tommy Tune Tonite!

Mary Ann Lamb has performed on Broadway in Song and Dance, Starlight Express, Carrie, Jerome Robbins Broadway, The Goodbye Girl, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Chicago, Fosse (opening night cast) and Seussical.

DENA RIZZO - Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyric

Dena Rizzo  is an established choreographer and teacher who has trained in tap, jazz, ballet and lyrical.  She inspires thousands of students across the country with her Hip Hop stylings and philosophy.  She has been a guest instructor for Darrin Henson’s Dance Groove Tour and headlines the faculty for “Showstoppers” dance Workshops.  You can catch Dena teaching classes for Jazz On Tap and dozens of Dance Masters of America Chapters.  Dena has her own instructional videos titled Street Style I & II and Step To My Groove.
